Liberty DeVitto, age 75 (born August 8, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York), is an American rock drummer and musician best known for his long career as the drummer for Billy Joel’s band. He performed with Joel for more than three decades, contributing to many of Joel’s classic albums and tours, and became widely respected for his energetic and precise playing style. Before fame, DeVitto taught himself drums after being inspired by seeing The Beatles on television. In addition to his work with Joel, he has played with other artists and continues to be involved in music projects and education initiatives.
